What Is Financial Freedom?

March 10, 2020

Today’s episode is all about the “why”. Ryan, Jimmy, and Brad got together to discuss the one question you need to figure out before you set out to achieve financial freedom.

The answer to this question will give your journey a foundation. It will provide you with a clear vision while allowing you to bring levels of energy to your life that you didn’t think were possible.

And it’s simply this. What do you want?

Answering this question is crucial because you won’t get very far without it. In fact, every newcomer, looking to join the Cashflow Tactics Facebook Group has to come up with an authentic answer in order to get in.

What Do YOU Want?

The definition of financial freedom, from a tactical perspective, is very simple. The formula sounds like this – cashflow greater than expenses. But there’s another side to it. A personal side, one that everyone has to figure out for themselves.

The majority of people seeking financial freedom are so bogged down with the negatives and the struggles that are simply a part of everyday life. When you’re fixating on the bad, day in and day out, it’s easy to figure out what you don’t want. But turning a negative into a positive is tricky. It takes some effort and maybe a little push.

That’s why Ryan, Brad, and Jimmy prepared a FREE 5-day Challenge, designed to guide anyone who is struggling to find their definition of financial freedom.

Ryan’s Version

Ryan also needed a push to find his answer. Unfortunately, it was life that was doing the pushing. The first time he stopped to ponder this ultimate question, he was actually asking it to someone else.

Standing in front of a hospital bay window, looking out at the Utah Valley he asked his son what he wanted. His oldest was 5 at the time, sitting in a wheelchair and recovering from an emergency open-heart surgery.

Still in shock from everything that transpired, Ryan started to ask himself the very same thing. And at that moment, he was inspired to let go of thinking about all the stuff he didn’t want and start focusing on the things he did want.

“I wanted to be present with my family… That gave me the fuel and the fire to do some pretty difficult things.” – Ryan D. Lee

Brad’s Version

Brad’s definition of financial freedom is interwoven with the notion of living on purpose. He thrives from being able to immerse himself into a role and completely take on an identity that allows him to reach his goals.

Because of that, he always tried to match what he did for a living with who he considered himself to be at that point. Even today, if his work is not an extension of a person he is trying to become, he simply cannot approach it with passion.

“There are lots of ways you can make money. But very few ways… that still allow for that space to be what you actually want to be.” – Bradley Gibb

Jimmy’s Version

Jimmy is a hardcore athlete at heart. To this day, one of his biggest regrets is never getting to play college football. He just loves the game so much. What drives him to play is the same thing that always did. But it’s not about obsessing over becoming the best. It’s about playing among the best and giving everything you have to stay competitive.

That athlete mindset is something that Jimmy transferred to business and his life in general. He loves being a part of the game and rising to the challenge by giving it his all.

“I just want to play as long and as hard and as fast as I can.” – Jimmy Vreeland

As you can see, they are all in the game for different reasons. The common thread is that all of their definitions are very personal and speak to each of them individually.

How to Define Financial Freedom for Yourself

In order to understand what financial freedom means to you in particular, you need to be able to answer three simple questions:

  • What do you want?
  • Can you commit to it?
  • Who do you want to become?

And the answers better be authentic, because you’re going to be the one putting everything into practice and making your goals into reality. These are not the things you can just copy off of someone else’s list. It doesn’t work like that. It has to be you.

If you’d like some help with getting clear on exactly which steps you personally need in order to become financially free 10 years from now, then our free 5-day challenge might just be the thing for you.
